The Care Ministry is all about being like Jesus to others. It is providing opportunities for our church body, the body of Christ, to die to self and serve others. We accomplish that by reaching into our own church family and reaching out to our community. We believe the life that God has given us, is not really being fully lived, until we give ourselves away.
We look forward to serving alongside those who have a heart for the hungry, the lost, the hurting and the weak, while communicating God’s love in a real and tangible way.
Below lists the different aspects of the Care Ministry with details
FEEDING MINISTRY: Each Wednesday from 5:00pm – 6:00pm, this Ministry comes along side many people who are in need of food and God’s love. Volunteers come together to hand out non perishable food, pray for those in need, and hand out clothing as well. Volunteers are invaluable in helping those in our community who are in need. We serve, on average, between 70-100 families each week. There are even volunteers who bless the families by catering hot meals on occasion. Each week, a short devotion along with an invitation to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior is given. Our parking lot is turned into a place where God’s love is seen.
SORTING CLOTHING: Volunteers come each Monday at 9:00am to sort out clothing which is handed out each Wednesday.
PICKING UP BREAD: Volunteers are needed each Wednesday between 11:00 am - 1:00 pm to pick up donated bread from Oroweat to hand out during the dispersion of food.
MAKING UP FOOD BOXES: Volunteers come together on the first Saturday of the month at 7:00am-9:00am to make up boxes of food for the following month.
FEEDING MINISTRY BOOTH ON SUNDAY: Volunteers are needed before/after each service on Sunday to accept donated food and answer questions.
THANKSGIVING DINNER: Many volunteers are needed for this yearly event. Many of Calvary Murrieta’s individual ministries have come together and are instrumental in helping to feed 500 people a delicious, hot, Thanksgiving dinner.
TEMECULA/MURRIETA RESCUE MISSION: Calvary Murrieta has come alongside this organization which is part of the Orange County Rescue Mission. We partner by providing volunteers for the following events:
- MOBILE MEDICAL UNIT: Medical Volunteers, to include physicians, Physician Assistants, RNs, and other medical professionals can commit to one evening each month. The unit is at Calvary Murrieta each Wednesday from 5:30pm – 9:00pm to offer free medical care to those who do not have insurance.
- THE FARM PROJECT: Each Saturday at 8:30am, volunteers meet at the Rancho Community Church parking lot to caravan to a 30 acre parcel on a large 500 acre farm in Rainbow to plant, weed, feed, water and harvest vegetables which are given to the homeless and those in need in our community. Soon, Calvary Murrieta will invite volunteers to meet at our church at 8:30am to caravan to help this worthy project. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, hats, sunscreen and water. Periodically, the host owners prepare a tasty BBQ for the volunteers!
RIVERBED MINISTRY: On the third Saturday of the month at 6:30am, volunteers are needed to meet at the church and go down to the riverbed/Sam Hicks Park area in Temecula. The group brings non perishables, clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, socks, etc to those who are homeless. A hot cup of coffee, a little breakfast, and a whole lot of prayer is doled out each month.
DOVETAIL MINISTRY: Dovetail is an integral part of the Care Ministry. Volunteers take an entire day on the second Tuesday of each month to travel to Montebello and help the food bank there. Volunteers meet at the church at 7:00am, and depart at 7:30am. We return to the church at approximately 5:00pm. Volunteers who can’t make the trip, but would like to help, are also needed to assist in unloading when we return. As we help, our fellowship receives blessings from Dovetail, which we in turn use to help people who come by the church on a daily basis with basic needs. The items are also used at the feeding ministry.
UNION RESCUE MISSION, LOS ANGELES: The Care Ministry has been blessed to be a part of coming alongside the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, and their Hope Garden Family Center in Sylmar.
UNION RESCUE MISSION/SKID ROW: Groups go on the fourth Saturday every other month to help the Mission with various needs. Currently, we are a part of feeding the lunch meal to the homeless at the mission, cleaning various areas of the mission, helping pass out toiletry boxes to folks who live near the mission. Once a year we spend the night at the mission, where we go out on Skid Row and minister to the folks on the streets in various ways, such as doing water walks, passing out treats and praying as God gives us opportunity.
HOPE GARDEN FAMILY CENTER: Groups go on the fourth Saturday every other month (alternating with the URM trips). At the Hope Garden Family Center, we’ve been helping get more rooms ready for women and their children. The Center is a place for homeless women with children who want to make a change in their life. Getting them out of the dangerous area of Skid Row, and into a safe, nurturing, environment is the main goal of the Union Rescue Mission’s CEO, Andy Bales and has become a passion of the Care Ministry volunteers. Along with the single Moms, there is a building which houses single elderly ladies who were previously homeless. They are blessed to stay there for the rest of their lives, as health permits. Calvary Murrieta has been involved in doing heavy labor to assist in getting more rooms ready, doing various cleaning and sorting of clothing in and around the property, doing barbecue lunches, and hosting ‘beauty’ days for the ladies.
HELPING HANDS: Our Helping Hands Ministry is a group of men that have been touched by Jesus to go out into our community and serve those people in need with all sorts of help such as moving, doing repairs around the home, and general help purposes.
SENIOR OUTREACH: Volunteers are needed to help the area Senior Center Communities in various ways. Special events bringing young and old together have been accomplished and as a result, we will be doing an annual "Prom Night" to show God’s love to them, and show the young people ways to love the older, wiser generation. Volunteers are also needed to periodically bring food boxes and bread to these dear seniors.
As God directs those who have a heart to reach out to others in and around our community, we continue to look for ways that God would use the volunteers of this very special ministry.
“For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in: I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me……Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” Matt 25: 35-36, 40
Jesus showed us by His life how to CARE for others. Let’s GO together as Jesus’ hands and feet, as we care for the hurting, the hungry, the helpless, and the homeless………just as He did.
